Digital Photography

Without all the technical clutter

I’m not a chef, but I can still whip up a great meal

Plus, I enjoy eating! My mom taught me the basics of cooking and I’ve picked up a few yummy ideas over the years. Cookbooks don’t really work for me because the recipes are often too complicated, and I usually don’t have all the ingredients anyhow. I’d rather experiment with the vegetables I grow in my garden, and the food and spices I find at the market.

Maybe that’s how you feel about photography

  • You like to take photos for fun and enjoyment, but have no interest in learning about the technical side of photography
  • You like to take photos while on holidays
  • You like to have photo memories of special occasions
  • You like looking at nice photos in magazines and books
  • You like to have photos of important people in your life, like your children or grandchildren
  • Or maybe you’re a young person who got a camera for your birthday and you want to take photos of your pets, your friends, and the fun things they do

If that’s you, then you are going to love this!

Right now I’m putting together a course just for people like you.

You will learn:

  • How to make your photos look great by making simple changes to your composition and framing
  • How to take pictures of people when they’re inside or outdoors
  • How and when to know if you should use your flash
  • A few things about the camera menus – just the basics though – no clutter
  • How to get prints made from your photos
  • And in general just make you more aware of simple things you can do to make your photos look their best

What you need to take this course

  • A digital camera. It can be any kind of digital camera, but mostly I’m going to be working with small (point and shoot) digital cameras.
  • If you have a bigger digital camera like a dSLR it will work for this course too.
  • You need an interest in taking better pictures, but I’m thinking you do if you’re reading this :)
  • You need to be computer comfortable, as this course is taught online using your Internet browser, so high-speed internet is necessary too.
  • It would be great if you knew how to put pictures from your camera on your computer, but that’s not totally necessary
  • You’ll need some time. The course is going to be about 3-4 weeks long with a new lesson every week, but each lesson will only take an hour or less to get through, depending on how many pictures you take for your assignments.

How it works

  • This course will be taught online, so you can do it whenever you want from wherever you live
  • You get video tutorials, photo examples and lots of written notes that you can download and keep for every lesson
  • The course will have some optional assignments too
  • You’ll be able to upload photos from your assignments if you like, but it’s not a requirement
  • I’ll be in the course with you to help you if you have any questions
